COVID-19 Protocol

Your safety is our highest priority. We are still careful about the pandemic-related protocols for travel internationally.

Fortunately, as elsewhere, the incidence of COVID-19 within Namibia has considerably decreased, and there are no significant new cases being reported daily. Even the Namibian government has relaxed its conditions. Travel to Namibia has been FULLY OPEN and marked SAFE. The condition for entry to Namibia now is being FULLY VACCINATED. Please carry a copy of your certificate.

However, we expect you to be FULLY vaccinated and continue wearing masks during the astronomy tour, in the welfare of other participants., especially young kids.

Please note that Astronomy Journeys does not expect any participant to cause covid-related inconvenience to other participants in its programmes and requests all participants to exercise caution.

Any other particular details will be communicated with the confirmed participants at the time of booking.

About The Event

From July 28 to August 7, we are travelling to Namibia to experience staggering desert landscapes and even further staggering starry night skies, one of the best in the southern hemisphere.

This is an Observational Astronomy tour aimed especially for non-newcomers into astronomy, those who're already quite into it or even well-versed, individuals, college students, and professors – of Physics & Astronomy, and very well even from ANY other non-science departments – who want to extend their learning of the night sky from one of India's BEST night sky specialists, the visual observer with the richest experienced deep-sky observing insights and vocabulary on the soil of India.

While 4 days of the tour will be given for recreation and relaxation, the 5 nights of August 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 will be dedicated to learning advanced aspects of the night sky and visual deep sky observing, by constantly being on our feet under it and observing with 10x50 small binoculars, 20x90 big binoculars, 120mm giant binoculars, 11" go-to telescope, 8" manual telescope, 16" dobsonian telescope, with basic, intermediate and advanced star charts/atlases, for our very advanced visual observing. On the last night, we are reserving a 24" dobsonian telescope, the largest aperture telescope in Africa for our extremely advanced visual observing – all under one of the world's darkest southern night skies, with splendid deep-sky objects never visible from the northern hemisphere.

This is a dedicated visual observing night-sky workshop. Here the participants will get to not only involve in hands-on observing and learn how to maximize the potential of binoculars into making some important celestial observations, but even how visual discoveries are made – and thereby identify how international experienced visual observers maximize even small instruments into making scientific discoveries, like of comets. With big to large apertures, the participants will be able to actually observe the DSOs from lesser heard sky catalogues, the fainter targets of the NGC Catalogue and further. At the end of 5 nights, you'll have already stepped onto the next level of observational / practical astronomy – every genre of celestial objects in visual form will be covered. By the end of this programme, the participant will be able to converse the language of visual observing and deep sky objects at-par with top league amateur astronomers of USA, Europe, Australia, even Japan, etc.

Join Astronomy Journeys to experience the indescribable Namibian night sky like how literally no one in India can show it to you – it is NOT a mere hobby or sky-gazing for us, we are VERY well-versed in speaking the language of the night sky and its 'deep sky objects' (DSOs) for the last 20 years full-time.
